Course Correct

My Role
Front-end web developer.
Timeline
Apr 22- May 23.

Innovative tutoring website seeking to use technology to redefine how children in the United Kingdom and Ireland learn.

I was the front-end developer on the project. I planned and gathered requirements for the website. I also collaborated with copy writers, UI designers and UX designers to produce ideal content for the website.

Project Summary

The website was made for my tutoring agency called Course Correct I established while I lived in Dublin. The goal was to give course correct an online presence and credibility. It was also created to acquire new customers through a sign up page and engage current customers by presenting information clearly and intuitively.

The Challenge

Course Correct was found in the COVID-19 era. Children in the UK and Ireland had been greatly affected by the lockdown and extended periods away from school, as a result, many of them were set a year back in their academic journey. Data shows that kids who were in exam classes were affected the worst. Disruption to education and educational inequality was the major pain point I recognized.

Solution

I sought to address this problem with technology. I had previously been a tutor so I combined my knowledge in that field with my computer science skills to create Course Correct. Course Correct addressed educational inequalities by tutoring kids virtually, I recruited other college students who taught Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English while I taught Math. At the time the Course Correct website was my biggest website project yet, I spent roughly 6 weeks in the creation of the site. HTML, CSS &Javascript were the primary programming languages used to make the website. I meticulously designed and developed each piece of the site with an intuitive user interface and responsive web design at the center of my mind. I wanted to make it as easy as possible for new customers to read relevant information and sign up for a free trial class. The website was hosted on Dreamhost and I made use of FileZilla to upload the files. I integrated Classcard to enable our students track homework, give feedback and access virtual class links; LessonSpace for a better user experience in the virtual classes, and Stripe to invoice parents and receive payments . I started it alone working multiple roles but as I gained more students more people were hired to meet with the demand.

Reflections

By the end of Course correct in May 2023 we had taught over 10 kids and generated over 10,000 euros in revenue with me as CEO, web developer and administrator. Based on feedback from both parents and students we recorded an improvement in academic performance of every child who was tutored at course correct. In hindsight managing the Course Correct website greatly improved my web development skills and I gained valuable experience working with others through the development process.
